Surrey Heartlands Academy recently hit the road to Porton Down, Wiltshire, to visit the Ministry of Defence’s Defence and Security Accelerator (DASA).

DASA is a cross-government team which works to find and fund exploitable innovation to support UK defence and security quickly and effectively, and support UK prosperity. This accelerator has funded over 500 projects, including the development of long-span rescue assault bridges, a crowd safety app called Krowdthink and technology to counter hostile drone threats.

We were interested in finding out more about how DASA runs open and themed calls to engage with industry and develops innovative solutions to its challenges. The DASA team shared their journey and gave us an insight into how they structure and run their calls.

We look forward to continuing to develop this relationship with DASA, as in Surrey Heartlands we progress with the Health Tech Accelerator and a new way to identify strategic partnerships with industry.
