During the Covid-19 response the Academy has continued to host fortnightly drop in sessions for the Surrey Improvers Network. These video calls provide a space for reflection and sharing between the improvement teams, who for the most part have been redeployed to support emergency response planning within their organisation.

In these sessions we explore the role of improvement teams during crises and the opportunities and challenges of recovery and restoration after this time. The Surrey Improvers Network is coming together to plan for their role as we move out of this first wave and discover a ‘new normal’ together. Members of the network have actively contributed to the national quality improvement community, with Surrey and Borders Partnership hosting national learning sessions and continuing this with the Q network.

The network continues with its collaborative work in Surrey Heartlands, and will be launching a Surrey-wide improvement collaborative later in 2020, with funding from the Health Foundation. This collaborative will explore the creation of a culture of continuous improvement across the partnership, but also support participants to reflect on how ways of working have changed, their learning during the time and which changes can be taken forward sustainably into the future.
