Leatherhead Diabetes (LD) Walk and Talk is a new initiative for people with or at risk of Type 2 diabetes who need to increase their activity levels. Part of Mole Valley Walking for Health, this new venture involves outdoor walking followed by indoor themed discussions focussing on the everyday challenges of living with diabetes.
Apart from making new friendships, participants will be able to enjoy gentle walks in Leatherhead and the beautiful surrounding countryside. In addition the groups, led by volunteers who themselves have diabetes, will be engaged in an informal 13-week programme with eight structured discussion topics.
Participants must be:
- at high risk of developing Type 2 diabetes
- have already been diagnosed with the condition
- be able to walk unaided
- be aged at least 18.
Tea or coffee will be available during the indoor discussions about diabetes and lifestyle factors where people can share their concerns with people who already live with the condition and understand the issues. A key outcome for the initiative is to provide motivation for positive achievable changes.
The first two hour event will take place from 10am on Monday 13 May at the Leatherhead Leisure Centre. It is essential to reserve a place. For further information contact the LD Walk and Talk co-ordinator on 07954 013496 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
