The Surrey Heartlands Health and Care Partnership’s Maternity Advice Line has been nominated for another award, this time for the 2019 Maternity & Midwifery Festival’s Innovation Award.

The results will be announced during the London Maternity & Midwifery Festival at the Millennium Gloucester Hotel, Kensington on Tuesday 5 February with the awards presented by TV news presenter Natasha Kaplinsky.

Calls to Surrey Heartlands Maternity Advice Line continue to increase. The Advice Line has already 

taken more than 21,000 calls. In the week of 1 October 2018 alone, the Advice Line took 960 calls.

The Pregnancy Advice Line is part of the national NHS Better Births plan to transform maternity services for pregnant women and families with new born babies and offering personalised care.

Surrey Heartlands is one of the first areas in the country to introduce this initiative which covers all aspects of the maternity pathway giving pregnant women, and the families of new born babies a better package of care, more choice and easier access to midwives and other health professionals.

From January 2019 midwives at the Maternity Advice Line will take emails as well as telephone calls from women seeking advice during pregnancy, labour and after birth. The email address will be:

Midwives at the Advice Line will respond to emails within 24 hours. However, if a woman under the care of Surrey Heartlands maternity services has an urgent issue she should phone the Advice Line and not email.

The festival will be attended by some 700 midwives and healthcare professionals and will feature speaker presentations, an exhibition of industry innovations, free taster treatments in a wellbeing zone and the first midwifery awards ceremony of the year.
